In addition to winning the Gelderland Cup, Roman Empire finished as reserve champion of the VSN Trophy in early 2024. Guest rider Diederik van Silfhout gave Roman Empire a 9.5 in the final during the overriding. Earlier, Diederik and his father Alex gave Roman Empire 42.7 points (8.7 walk, 8.5 trot, 8.5 gallop, 8.5 harmony, 8.5 general impression) in the preliminary round of the final in Putten.

Low kinship

The well-developed and strongly modeled, thoroughbred Roman Empire is interesting for mares with a high kinship percentage in Dutch dressage breeding because of its low kinship with the other horses in Dutch breeding. Roman Empire has an appealing forehand. He moves with a lot of balance, good space and a striking use of the foreleg with a lot of lift and space. Roman Empire has been approved by the Oldenburger Verband. A particularly interesting appearance with a very good pedigree.

Pedigree

Roman Empire is a son of the Grand Prix top stallion Romanov, who performed at the top for years with Edward Gal and Hans Peter Minderhoud. Romanov started his career with the Danish Sue Hansen. With Edward and Hans Peter participated with Romanov in the European Championship in Herning in 2013. Romanov is the father of more than 85 offspring in the Small and Heavy Tour. Of these, 32 will compete in the Grand Prix. This makes Romanov one of the best sires in the world rankings. Well-known descendants are Skovens Rafael, Honnerups Driver and Thranegaardens Rostov.

Roman Empire is one of sixteen approved sons of Romanov. Last year his full brother Red Viper was approved for Westphalia with high marks in the German test.

Their mother Zolena died in 2023 at the age of 19. The daughter of the keur stallion Sir Sinclair is one of the best mares of her generation. As a four-year-old, Zolena was the best mare in the Pavo Cup and she subsequently took part in the World Championships for young dressage horses in Verden two years in a row, where she scored very well. In sport she was released in the ZZ-light class. Her father Sir Sinclair started his career with us at the station and was promoted to keur stallion by the KWPN. He has already produced 19 Grand Prix horses and 50 offspring in the Small Tour.

Zolena is bred from the well-known dressage line of Urona, which is the basis of the Grand Prix horses Axel, Junimond, Markant, Nurona and Zodiak. It is also the lineage of the approved stallions Opoque, High Five U.S., Blue Hors First Choice, Knock Out and Viking. In addition, the tribe supplied many good dressage horses at all levels. For example, Zolena’s mother and grandmother are classified in Z class and are the mother of several Z horses.

In addition to Red Viper and Roman Empire, Zolena produced the NMK mare My Lena ZL (by Zack), who performed well in the young horse competitions and is the mother of a number of good foals by Kyton.
